License Renewal

Renew Your Texas Apprentice Sign Electrician License

Your Apprentice Sign Electrician license renews every year. Renewing on time costs $20 and requires 4 hours of TDLR-approved continuing education. Here's the full process — including what to do if it already expired.

Apprentice Sign Electrician renewal: complete your CE course, IER Hub reports your hours and mails your certificate, then submit your renewal application and pay the state fee at TDLR

Why the printed certificate matters

IERhub.com reports your hours to TDLR electronically, and that reporting almost always lands without a hitch. If TDLR's system is ever slow to update, your printed certificate is your official record — hard proof that you finished the course on time, ready to show if your renewal status is delayed or questioned.

It matters at work, too. Electrical contractors keep CE certificates on file to verify workforce compliance for insurance policies, safety audits, and project bids. And if your employer reimburses the course, the printed certificate is usually the documentation their accounting department asks for.

Your Continuing Education Requirement

Before each renewal, Texas requires 4 hours of TDLR-approved continuing education, completed within your current license term. The hours do not carry into the next cycle. You can satisfy this with approved CE or by enrolling in a TDLR-registered apprenticeship training program.

Our TDLR-approved course covers all four required topics in about four hours, on any device — Provider #2520 · Course #32815.

What TDLR Charges to Renew

Renewing on time costs $20. Once the license has lapsed, the fee rises with how long it has been expired:

SituationFeeHow to file
Current — renewed on time$20Renew online
Expired 90 days or less$30Renew online
Expired 91 days to 18 months$40Renew online
Expired 18 to 36 months$40Renew by mail (Executive Director request form required)
Expired over 36 monthsCannot renew — reapply as a new applicant
Finish your 4 hours and report before your deadline — no late fee.

If Your License Already Expired

Within 18 months of expiring you can still renew online at the late fee shown above. Past 18 months, TDLR requires a mailed renewal with a Request to the Executive Director for Expired License Renewal form. After 36 months the license can no longer be renewed — you would reapply as a new applicant and meet the current licensing requirements.

TDLR reviews criminal history on every renewal, so a Criminal History Questionnaire may also be required. Confirm the current forms and steps on the official TDLR page before you file, and renew through the TDLR online licensing system once your CE is on record.

Two payments, two different jobs

You pay IER Hub for your course. You pay the State of Texas separately, on the TDLR website, to renew your license.
