How is the real Texas journeyman exam structured?
Two parts. NEC Knowledge is 59 questions in 130 minutes, and Calculations is 26 questions in 110 minutes. Each part is scored on its own and each needs 70% to pass.

TDLR's FY2025 journeyman exam pass rate was 27.52%. The Calculations section was the harder half at 20.56%.
Which code edition does this practice test use?
The 2023 NEC, the edition the Texas exam requires today. Texas adopted the 2026 NEC as its statewide electrical code effective September 1, 2026, so confirm the edition on TDLR's exam page before a test date on or after that day.
Can I bring a code book to the real exam?
You may bring a soft-bound copy of the 2023 NEC, and you may tab, highlight, and annotate it beforehand. Loose-leaf, spiral-bound, and ring-bound copies are not allowed. This rule is the one candidates most often get wrong.
