License Renewal Process
All licensed Texas electricians (except apprentices) must complete 4 hours of TDLR-approved CE and renew their license annually.
Practicing with an expired license in Texas is a violation of TDLR rules and can result in fines or disciplinary action. Renew before your expiration date.
Step-by-step renewal
-
Find your renewal deadline — Check your license card or the TDLR public license lookup for your exact expiration date.
-
Complete 4 CE hours — Enroll in a TDLR-approved course. IERhub courses are available online 24/7 in English and Spanish. Certificate issued immediately upon completion.
-
Log in to TDLR — Go to tdlr.texas.gov/manage and log in with your license number.
-
Submit your renewal — Follow the renewal prompts, upload your CE certificate if requested, and pay the renewal fee.
-
Confirm renewal — Your updated license will be available in the TDLR portal after processing.

Late renewal
TDLR allows a grace period for late renewals, but a late fee applies. Licenses lapsed more than a year may require re-examination. Contact TDLR directly if your license has been expired for an extended period.
