How many CE hours does a Texas electrician need per year?

Most Texas electrician license types must complete 4 hours of TDLR-approved continuing education prior to each license renewal. This applies to: Master Electrician, Journeyman Electrician, Journeyman Lineman, Journeyman Industrial Electrician, Residential Wireman, Maintenance Electrician, Master Sign Electrician, Journeyman Sign Electrician, Apprentice Electrician, and Apprentice Sign Electrician.

Do Texas Apprentice Electricians need CE?

Yes. Texas Apprentice Electricians and Apprentice Sign Electricians are required to complete 4 hours of TDLR-approved continuing education prior to each license renewal. They must maintain an active TDLR registration and work under the direct supervision of a Texas Master Electrician, Journeyman Electrician, Residential Wireman, Journeyman Lineman, Journeyman Industrial Electrician, Master Sign Electrician, or Journeyman Sign Electrician.

Can I take my Texas electrician CE online?

What happens if I practice with an expired license in Texas?

Practicing with an expired TDLR electrician license is a rules violation and can result in fines and disciplinary action. Renew before your expiration date. Contact TDLR if your license has been expired for an extended period.

Can I take the CE course in Spanish?

Yes. TDLR approves Spanish-language CE courses from registered providers. Check with your provider to confirm Spanish availability for your specific course.

How long does the CE course take?

The course is 4 hours and can be completed online at your own pace. There is no time limit — pause and resume whenever needed within your enrollment period.

Do I get a certificate after completing the course?

Yes. A completion certificate is issued immediately after you finish the course.

What topics are covered in the CE course?

Texas electrician CE must cover: National Electrical Code (NEC), Texas Electrician Law, Texas Electrician Administrative Rules, and Electrical Safety (NFPA 70E).
